Job Description:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic, inspects, diagnoses and repairs
diesel-powered vehicles, Equipment, and machines, like trucks,
semis, forklifts, other heavy equipment and trailers. Their main
duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, replacing the
vehicles' engine, transmission, steering mechanism or braking
system and test driving the vehicle to determine if they properly
fixed the maintenance issue.
Essential Job Functions:
Consulting the Equipment Managers and reading work orders to
evaluate the tasks required
Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues
Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the
results to offer suitable solutions
Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and
exhausts, hydraulic and air systems
Repairing or replacing vehicle/ equipment transmissions, brakes,
engines and other associated parts
Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden
breakdown
Test driving repaired vehicles/ equipment to gauge their
performance
Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignments and brake
checks including air and hydraulic brake systems.
Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles, and
preventative maintenance.
Assess vehicles and/or machinery to accurately diagnose and repair
issues
Liaise with internal clients to determine their automotive/ heavy
equipment requirements and communicate vehicular/ equipment defects
or problems
Provide routine inspections of vehicles and inform clients of any
issues
Prepare quotes and work estimates as requested
Keep an accurate log of all work performed
Maintain and clean garage equipment and tools to ensure they are
kept in a safe and usable condition at all times
Adhere to company work safety policies

Proper pre-start and daily Maintenance Including lubrication
Keep equipment clean and well maintained
Monitor all engine gauges
Schedule work and maintain production
Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative
of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential
functions of this job.
Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a
regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employees must
be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend,
and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.
Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in
conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90
pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities
of the construction site, including the activities of other
employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment,
and the movement of mobile equipment.
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in
varying weather conditions.
The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile
equipment safely.
Required Skills and Abilities (including Education and
Experience):
Must have at least a High School Diploma/ G.E.D.
Must have at least 1 - 3 years' experience as a Construction
Equipment Mechanic
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff
Experience working on multiple projects at once and managing time
appropriately
